clean vista b2 install failure

Clean Vista B2 install failure

I've installed the past three releases on a Dell Latitude 600 notebook with no installation problems ... and now Beta 2 won't install ... what gives!!
I've downloaded the ISO twice, checked the CRC on both files and everything is a go ... I've burned multiple DVDs and non work any differently ...
And I don't want to hear any suggestions about mounting the ISO or copying files to the system ... I'm doing a clean install booting from DVD ...
Thoughts anyone?

Try burning the ISO at a low speed, 2x recommended, try a different brand media. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Hi Phil,
1. What part of the "won't install" actually fails to install? Any error messages that might help?
2. Do you get to the installation wizard? If you do, are you installing on an existing partition (or an existing formatted drive), or onto a new partition/fresh reformat?

Naseru,
I get the "Setup failed to open the windows image file" message that others have reported ... it comes up after I enter the product key but before any license acceptance screen. This occurs when I'm attempting to install from DVD, both when starting setup from within Windows XP and when booting from the DVD.
I was attempting to install by booting from the DVD, on a system that already had Windows XPsp2 installed, planning to format the drive to perform a clean Vista installation.
Since posting my message, I've reinstalled Vista b5308 by booting from the DVD which was successful. Then I copied the files from another system where I had extracted them from the ISO. Then I ran setup from the local copy of the files to install build 5384. This still allowed me to do a clean install .... but its too many hoops to jump through.
I hope these installation issues are addressed before Microsoft rolls out a public CTP of this build ... or Vista is going to get a major black eye ... if you know what I mean.

I was getting the same error at one point. I got beyond that but not certain if it was because I formatted the NTFS partition when I right click on that partition from within the Disk Management utility (Computer Management/Storage) Interesting though that my first install to that partition didn't take long and didn't work. The second time I pointed to that partition, it was a much slower but successfull install of the files. - hazz
